NextGen 10.0
June 14-August 13, 2023
Kaplan Gallery
VisArts presents NextGen 10.0, a juried group exhibition that showcases next generation aspiring artists (ages 17 to 27) from the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. The annual exhibition offers young artists who have little to no exhibition record the opportunity to bring their work to a wider audience.
The exhibition is planned and realized by a team of Galleries department interns and volunteers with mentorship from staff.
This year’s NextGen jurors are:
Monica Jahan-Bose
Monica Jahan Bose is a Bangladeshi American artist and climate activist whose work spans painting, printmaking, performance, film, and interdisciplinary projects. Her social practice work highlights the intersection of climate, racial, gender, and economic injustice through co-created workshops and temporary public art installations and performances.
Edgar Reyes
Edgar Reyes is a multimedia artist based in the Baltimore and Washington. DC area. Reyes earned his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has taught at nonprofit organizations, schools, and museums. Many of his projects are autobiographical and a reflection of his personal journey as an undocumented youth in the US. His work highlights the adversities his family has faced when divided by deportations, the loss of loved ones, and racially motivated crimes.
