VisArts - Gibbs Street Gallery (Exterior)

Accessibility

Welcome to VisArts

We’re committed to supporting the creative life of everyone in the community by making our galleries, educational programs, and community activities accessible and inclusive for all.

Barrier-Free Accessibility

Gibbs Street is currently closed to vehicle traffic. Please see Directions + Parking for dropping off and parking information.

VisArts’ facilities, including all galleries, studios, classrooms, restrooms, and entrances, are entirely wheelchair-accessible and barrier-free. The main entrance at 155 Gibbs Street features power-assist doors. Elevators provide access to Floor 2 (galleries, artist studios, and event space) and Floor 3 (administrative office and classrooms). These spaces may have lightweight manual doors that are open during business hours.

Modified seating can be provided in our galleries and classrooms. Folding chairs are available for use in the galleries; please ask a VisArts staff member or volunteer for assistance. Motorized wheelchairs are welcome throughout our facilities.

Restrooms, all of which are wheelchair accessible with power-assist doors, are located on Floor 2 and Floor 3. Please use the restroom that best aligns with your gender identity.

The elevators located through the main entrance doors are large, allowing for companions and/or service animals to accompany individuals to the Floor 2 and Floor 3 galleries, artist studios, event space, classrooms, and administrative office.

Service Animals

VisArts follows the Federal government’s guidelines on service animals and welcomes those animals that are individually trained to perform a task or work for a person with a disability.

American Sign Language

American Sign Language interpretation for classes, workshops, and gallery tours may be arranged by contacting VisArts. We require two-weeks’ notice.

Accessible Arts Classes

Individuals of all ages and abilities are welcome to discover their talents and express their ideas through learning opportunities at VisArts. Our Accessible Arts classes provide instruction to students with a range of physical, emotional, and intellectual abilities. The curriculum is developed with these abilities in mind and instructors provide support as needed.

Accommodations in Classes + Workshops

VisArts’ instructors recognize that there are many ways to learn. They work closely with individuals to develop teaching strategies that best support the abilities of neurodiverse students.

Accommodations can be made for classes and workshops by contacting us about the type of accommodation desired, such as a wheelchair-friendly setup for a pottery wheel or adjusted easel height in a painting class.
