Art Instructor

VisArts is looking for visual art instructors with an interest in multicultural curricula for our thriving DMV art center. We work with artists/instructors of all experience levels and can provide support for beginning teachers as well. Bilingual teachers are encouraged to apply, particularly those with Spanish and Chinese fluency. Hourly rates begin at $23 an hour and go up depending on experience. Degrees and teaching certificates are not required.

Emerging Teacher Mentorship Program

VisArts welcomes artists to apply to its Emerging Teacher Mentorship Program. This program is designed for those who would like to teach art classes but have little or no prior teaching experience. If you have an art background and would like to begin teaching art classes, this program might be for you.

VisArts provides lesson observations, one-on-one feedback, and ongoing support for mentorship teachers to grow and improve in the classroom. VisArts will advise mentorship teachers on lesson plans, curriculum development, and classroom management during the 8-week program time and provide post mentorship support.

Mentorship teachers are encouraged to join the VisArts Faculty Team during the mentorship program to meet other teachers and participate in team curriculum development.

VisArts encourages members of underrepresented groups to apply.

This is a part-time position. The pay rate for mentorship teachers is $23 per hour.

Education Office Assistant Volunteer

A VisArts Office Volunteer will assist the VisArts administrative staff with everyday operational tasks. Volunteers will assist with classroom set up, material preparation and other day-to-day assignments.

Job Description: Education Office Assistants will…

  • Train in the administrative offices and learn about the operations of the organization
  • Set up classrooms and prep materials for classes
  • Help teachers; provide them with the proper materials and paperwork for their classes
  • Assist staff with general daily tasks
  • Assist staff with office cleaning duties

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be able to volunteer for minimum, one entire semester
  • Volunteers must commit to volunteering at least 2 days per week, 3-5 hours per day
  • Volunteers must inform Volunteer Coordinator of any attendance changes  as soon as possible, and must commit to making up the day that they miss
  • Volunteers must have reliable transportation to and from VisArts
  • Volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Summer Camp Art Instructor

Description:

VisArts is seeking dynamic, resourceful, and proactive professionals with experience working with and teaching children to join on as instructors for our award-winning summer camp program. A VisArts Summer Camp Instructor will be responsible for inspiring the development of each student’s creative expression through a variety of visual arts. 

Teachers should have some experience working with children and/or teens ages 5 to 17 in at least one of the following media: painting and drawing, ceramics (both wheel and handbuilding), wood working, mixed media, glass and mosaics, costume design, and cosplay. On-Call Substitute Summer Camp Instructor

Description:

VisArts is seeking a creative and motivated professional with experience working with and teaching children to join as an on-call substitute teacher for our award winning summer camp program. An On-call VisArts Summer Camp Instructor will be responsible for covering classes that full-time teachers are unable to attend, while continuing to inspire the development of each student’s creative expression through a variety of visual arts. On-call substitutes should be available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday of their assigned sessions.

Teachers should have some experience working with children and/or teens ages 5 to 17 in at least one of the following media: painting and drawing, ceramics (both wheel and handbuilding), wood working, mixed media, digital arts, glass and mosaics, costume design, and cosplay. Teachers should be able to take over curricula and continue instruction without disruption. On-call teachers will be given a flat on-call rate for each session they are hired to be one call (each session is two weeks long), plus an hourly wage of $25/hour of work it/when they are called in.

Summer Camp Volunteer

Description: 

Do you like working with children, and art? Then volunteering at a VisArts Art Camp might be a perfect fit and a great way to earn some SSL hours! 

A VisArts Summer Camp volunteer will assist with day-to-day camp activities during the summer. Volunteers will work directly with the campers, and act as a partial liaison between the teachers, campers, and staff. Volunteers will assist the summer camp teachers and administrative staff with camp operations.

Expectations:

Volunteers will be expected to assist students, teachers, and staff with various tasks throughout the camp day. This includes, but is not limited to; leading campers to and from classrooms, helping teachers organize supplies/materials, helping staff members inventory materials, assisting teachers with class time activities, etc. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least one, two-week session of camp between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:15 PM, with a 30 minute break period included.

Please note, all staff/volunteers MUST be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the time their assigned session begins.

Summer Volunteer hours: 9:00 AM – 5:15 PM (30 minute break period inlcuded)

Summer Camp Media Intern

Description:

Are you interested in photography, videography, and editing? The VisArts Media Intern might be the right position for you.

A VisArts Summer Camp Media Intern will take photos and videos of camp activities including arrival, dismissal, class time, lunch time, recess and more, for the purposes of VisArts advertising and marketing campaigns. Media Interns will work with the camp and the marketing staff to obtain images and videos that work well with our organization’s brand.

Expectations:

Interns will be expected to have knowledge of photographic skills that go beyond social media applications. Ideal candidates will have experience working with digital SLR cameras, and have an in-depth understanding of photography techniques, as well as editing programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Interns must be able to commit to three days of work per week – two onsite taking pictures/videos, and one onsite or remote for editing, for a minimum of six weeks of work, with a one-week training period. The daily/hourly schedule is flexible and can be negotiated upon hiring.

Summer Camp Internship

Description:

Looking to gain introductory work experience in a fun, fast-paced environment? VisArts Camp Internship may be for you!

VisArts Camp Interns will be introduced to a challenging professional environment in which they will learn introductory organizational and communication skills necessary for running a summer camp. Interns will be involved with the implementation of camp protools and activities, as well as assist the camp staff with various administrative tasks.

Expectations:

Interns will be expected to take an active role in the implementation of camp policies, protocols and activities. This will include assisting the senior staff with day-to-day camp activities such as camper check-in/out, daily volunteer management, some parent communication and administrative paperwork. Interns will learn about time management and general professional organization.

Want to gain work experience in a fun, relaxed but challenging environment? VisArts’ Camp department is looking for someone that is organized, responsible, and has initiative. The intern will be an integral part of administrating Camp’s daily tasks. Applicants must be in or entering college. After we receive your application, we will contact you to come in for an interview. You will be contacted by email in early April to set up an interview in between April – early June, 2022. Every intern must come in for an interview.

Summer Internship shifts will be scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM, shifts will not exceed 8 hours.
