Students will learn the technique from first a simple butterfly template provided based on Mexican folk art, and for the second meeting, a very simplified version of the Swiss squirrel design pictured. How to hold the scissors, how to hold the paper as you go, and the cutting technique will be demonstrated.

Materials Needed:

  • Two templates (to be postal mailed possibly)
  • Black paper (3 or 4 sheets 9 x 12” or 8.5 x 11”)

Here is a link for the nice silhouette paper which has a good deep black color:

matte finish, 25 sheets, 9 x 12, $13.74

  • Scissors, curved embroidery ones are best but any smallish sharp-pointed ones will do. Amazon link:

  • One white colored pencil
  • Eraser
  • (optional) X-acto knife, a couple extra #11 blades, and a ‘self-healing cutting mat’

This is an adult class for ages 17 and up.

Instruction will be provided through the Zoom platform. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Once you register for the class, you will be sent an e-mail with the Zoom URL to log in to the class. Please provide a correct and viable e-mail address when registering as this is how you receive your link.

Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class.
