Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
This introductory course explores the foundational principles of two-dimensional design through hands-on projects, critical analysis, and creative experimentation. Students will learn to apply elements such as line, shape, texture, value, color, and space to create visually compelling compositions. Emphasis will be placed on understanding design principles including balance, contrast, rhythm, unity, and emphasis.
Through a variety of media, such as drawing, painting, and collage, students will develop technical skills and conceptual thinking. Projects will encourage both personal expression and problem-solving, while critiques will foster communication and visual literacy.
By the end of the course, students will have a strong grasp of 2D design vocabulary, composition strategies, and the ability to thoughtfully analyze and create artwork.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list needed accommodations.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
