Board of Directors: Call for Nominations

Do you believe that the arts are essential and transformative? Are you looking for a way to connect and work with a diverse group of talented community members, including artists as well as nonprofit and business leaders from across the DMV? Are you interested in shaping and guiding the future direction of the region’s largest visual arts organization? Would you like to expand your professional network and enhance your career? If so, board membership at VisArts may meet your needs and ours.

Our board members work together to advance VisArts’ mission, serve as the voice of our community members, and ensure that VisArts is responsive to the needs of artists of all ages and backgrounds. VisArts’ board reflects our commitment to racial and cultural equity and brings together individuals with diverse backgrounds and skill sets that are essential to a successful organization.

Qualifications

  • Leaders from the arts, philanthropy, academia, nonprofit, and business sectors.
  • Emerging and experienced leaders (prior board experience not required).
  • Current or past participants in VisArts events, programs, activities, classes, etc.
  • Current or past volunteers for VisArts, or individuals with relevant volunteer experience.
  • Individuals who have a strong desire to help our community and an active interest in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the arts.

Commitment

  • Serve as a member of the Board of Directors for a three-year term, without compensation.
  • Participate actively throughout the year (typically at least 20 hours annually).
  • Attend and participate in four Board meetings and four committee meetings annually.
  • Annually donate an amount that is personally significant and solicit others to do the same.
  • Contribute skill, intellect, expertise, ideas, reputation, passion, and financial strength in service to the Board.
  • Prioritize VisArts, in terms of time and resources, with respect to other community and volunteer activities.
