Introduction to Cyanotype Workshop

Instructor:

Maria Soboleva

Do you love blue?

Explore the magic of cyanotype—the art of making one-of-a-kind blue prints using sunlight. In this relaxed workshop, you’ll learn how to turn plant cuttings, objects, and photos into stunning deep-blue images powered by the sun (and if it rains, we’ll cheat a little with a UV lamp—it works just as well).

With guided instruction, you’ll get hands-on with cyanotype solution: coating your materials, exposing your designs, and watching your prints appear like a slow-motion Polaroid. You’ll also learn safety tips and simple washing and drying techniques to keep your work crisp and vibrant.

It’s a timeless craft with a modern edge—and you’ll leave with your own mini collection of solar-made art. All materials are provided; but you’re welcome to bring a favorite leaf or object you’d like to print).

This Center for Craft Studies program is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Windgate Foundation.

This class is for ages 14 and up.

Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list needed accommodations.

Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed three days prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
