Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Explore the Storytelling Traditions of the Great Plains
Discover the rich narrative art of Native American artists from the Great Plains through the exhibition Unbound: Narrative Art of the Plains, currently on view at the National Museum of the American Indian through January 20, 2026.
Through guided discussion and close visual analysis, you’ll explore how artists use imagery, materials, and symbolism to convey personal, historical, and communal stories. Along the way, you’ll gain broader cultural and historical context—seeing how these visual narratives connect traditional forms with contemporary Indigenous identity.
Ideal for educators, students, and museum-goers, this program offers fresh insight into Native American art, culture, and resilience, and will deepen your ability to engage meaningfully with these works.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
