Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Join artist Eloisa Guanlao on January 10 from 4-8 PM for an evening of storytelling and printmaking!
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore the story of your ancestry through the art of linoleum block printing.
Celebrate your roots while learning techniques for transferring designs to linoleum, carving intricate patterns, and creating unique, striking prints inspired by your personal or cultural heritage.
Whether you’re new to printmaking or looking to deepen your creative practice, this workshop offers a meaningful way to connect with your past and express it through art.
Bring a photograph, family heirloom, or cultural keepsake that inspires you.
Guanlao’s solo exhibition Noli Me Tangere is on view in the Kaplan Gallery through January 12.
Eloisa Guanlao was born in the Philippines. Her experiences as an immigrant and nomadic scholar-artist influence her versatile art practice and critical inquiries.
Guanlao’s interest in the natural world, history, art, languages, and literature began at an early age. This multifaceted passion was nurtured at the Los Angeles High School for the Arts in California, cultivated with a liberal arts education at Carleton College in Minnesota, and further developed at the University of New Mexico, where she received her MFA in studio art.
Because Guanlao considers art making a social and cultural endeavor, she pursues projects that are research intensive and relevant to current issues.
A trained teacher and lifelong scholar, Guanlao has taught at secondary schools and universities in Hawaii, California, Maryland, and Alabama, where students and colleagues appreciate her dedication to interdisciplinary learning and pedagogy. She practices and teaches art in California.
