About the Artist
Danni O’Brien (b. 1992, Virginia) is a sculptor based in Baltimore, Maryland. O’Brien scavenges and collects discarded materials, creating enigmatic assemblages through continuous acts of deconstruction and reconstruction. Their work incorporates assemblage, gardening, paper-making, ceramic handbuilding, woodworking, and casting.
O’Brien’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions with Ortega y Gasset Projects, The Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, and Tephra ICA. They have exhibited in group exhibitions with Asya Geisberg, Pazo Fine Art, Current Space, Hamiltonian Gallery, and the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art.
In addition to having been awarded residencies with PLOP, Art Farm, Wassaic Project, Proyecto Ace, and the Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency, O’Brien is a 2024 Maryland State Arts Council Grant recipient and a 2022 Belle Foundation Grant winner. They are looking forward to returning for a residency with the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony this summer and to being the Windgate Craft Artist Fellow with the Vermont Studio Center this fall.
