Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
In this four-session class, you’ll learn how to join your stitches in the round without twisting, use circular and double-pointed needles, and follow a simple hat pattern. We’ll cover techniques like decreasing for crown shaping, switching needle types when needed, and finishing with a tidy top.
Along the way, you’ll build confidence with yarn tension, experiment with ribbing, pattern stitches, and color stripes—and even have the option to add a pompon. By the end, you’ll have a warm, hand-knit hat and the skills to take on more in-the-round projects like mittens, socks, and sweaters.
This class is for knitters who already know how to cast on, knit, and purl, and are ready to grow their skills. The pattern includes sizes from toddler to adult large.
Materials are provided, but if you’d like to bring your own, you’ll need:
1 skein of worsted-weight 100% merino wool, approx. 200 yards / 100 grams
US 8 (5 mm) 16-inch circular needles
A set of five US 8 double-pointed needles
A stitch marker (or scrap yarn)
A tapestry (or yarn) needle
This class is for ages 14 and up.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list needed accommodations.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
