Paper Clay Sculpture

Instructor:

Bob Devers

Have you ever wanted to work large-scale in ceramics—without the limits of firing? This paper clay sculpture class is your chance to experiment with form, texture, and structure using a non-fired, fiber-reinforced clay body.

You’ll work with a tested hybrid recipe made from ceramic and fiber-based materials, including nylon fibers and glue. It looks and feels like stoneware but doesn’t require firing—opening up new creative possibilities. Surfaces can be finished in bold and unexpected ways using terra sigillata and mixed-media techniques.

You’ll explore sculpture in the round, bas-relief wall pieces, and hanging forms, using armatures like chicken wire and cardboard. Traditional hand-building methods are part of the mix, and the studio is equipped with a slab roller and hand extruder to help bring your ideas to life.

Open Studio Hours
