Position Description

VisArts is seeking dynamic and resourceful individuals, with at least two years’ professional experience working with children, tweens, or teens (ages 5 to 17) in a visual arts setting, to join our team as Summer Day Camp Art Instructors.

Summer Day Camp Art Instructors report to the Camp Co-Directors. These are temporary, onsite, hourly positions from June-August 2025, with the camp day running from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. Camps are held in one- or two-week sessions, and instructors may work all or part of the summer.

We’re hiring multiple instructors for a variety of art disciplines. Instructors should have experience in at least one of the following media: painting, drawing, ceramics hand building, woodworking, mixed media, printmaking, and textiles/fiber arts. Experienced in a different medium? Apply! We’re always open to new ideas.

Summer Day Camp Art Instructors will be responsible for inspiring students’ creative expression, developing and leading engaging lessons, and ensuring a fun and educational experience for all participants.

Position Description

VisArts is seeking a creative and motivated professional with experience working with and teaching children to join as an on-call substitute teacher for our award winning summer camp program. An On-call VisArts Summer Camp Instructor will be responsible for covering classes that full-time teachers are unable to attend, while continuing to inspire the development of each student’s creative expression through a variety of visual arts. On-call substitutes should be available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday of their assigned sessions.

Teachers should have some experience working with children and/or teens ages 5 to 17 in at least one of the following media: painting and drawing, ceramics (both wheel and handbuilding), wood working, mixed media, digital arts, glass and mosaics, costume design, and cosplay. Teachers should be able to take over curricula and continue instruction without disruption. On-call teachers will be given a flat on-call rate for each session they are hired to be one call (each session is two weeks long), plus an hourly wage of $25/hour of work it/when they are called in.

FAQ

Is the position onsite or remote?

This position is onsite. Summer camp takes place onsite from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Teachers will have a break during the day and at least one assistant in class with them at all times.

How much advance notice will I be given?

We will do our best to get in touch with you as soon as we find out a teacher is unable to attend. A minimum of 30 minutes will be given prior to a class starting.

Is a college degree necessary for success?

It is not necessary. We’re looking for people with ideally some experience in both the medium and with teaching students between the ages of 5 and 17.

Position Description

VisArts is looking for determined individuals seeking an opportunity to gain valuable co-managerial experience in a professional but relaxed environment. VisArts Assistant Camp Directors will be involved in the various stages of planning and implementation of one of our biggest annual programs — VisArts Summer Camp.

Expectations:

ACDs will be expected to take an active role in the implementation of VisArts Summer Camp. This may include some pre-camp planning/training, as well as post-camp close-out and organization. Throughout the summer, ACDs will be responsible for assisting with the management of volunteers/interns while delegating and overseeing their various tasks.

Shifts will be scheduled between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM, with breaks included. Shifts will not exceed 8 hours.

Position Description

Looking to gain important professional skills in a fun, creative, and challenging artistic environment? The VisArts Camp Assistant position may be perfect for you!

VisArts Camp Assistants will provide support for VisArts’ camp administrative team and learn about the process and skills necessary to plan and implement a successful artistic program. Camp Assistants will learn a mixture of administrative and hands-on skills that will serve them well as they continue in new professional environments.

Expectations:

Camp Assistants will continue in their growth within the VisArts Camp/Education department by continuing to obtain new skills and professional experience. Assistants will be expected to take an even more active role in the implementation of VisArts Summer Camp. This includes assisting the administrative staff, monitoring interns and volunteers, and overseeing day-to-day camp activities.

**Exceptions may be made for those who work with VisArts throughout the school year in addition to summer camp. Position Description

Looking for some first hand teaching experience following a dynamic, multimedia arts curriculum? Check out the VisArts Camp Teacher Assistant position. Camp Teaching Assistants will provide the head camp teacher with support and assistance as they guide campers through the curriculum for their respective session(s). Teaching assistants will learn about the ins and outs of being in a classroom, and gain valuable skills and experience that will serve them well in any future teaching positions.

Expectations:

VisArts Camp Teacher Assistants will be expected to assist teachers and students in the classroom, as well as communicate with the administrative staff and camp materials team in order to provide as much support as possible to the entire camp program. Camp Teacher Assistants must be able to commit to at least 3 two-week sessions throughout the summer as well as a one-day orientation prior to camp starting.

Please note, all staff/volunteers MUST be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the time their assigned session begins.

Volunteer Opportunities

Do you like working with children, and art? Then volunteering at a VisArts camp might be a perfect fit and a great way to earn some SSL hours!

Position Description

A VisArts Fall Craft Day Camps volunteer will assist with day-to-day camp activities during Fall Craft Day Camps. Volunteers will work directly with the campers, and act as a partial liaison between the teachers, campers, and staff. Volunteers will assist the camp teachers and administrative staff with camp operations.

Expectations:

Volunteers will be expected to assist students, teachers, and staff with various tasks throughout the camp day. This includes, but is not limited to; leading campers to and from classrooms, helping teachers organize supplies/materials, helping staff members inventory materials, assisting teachers with class time activities, etc. Volunteers must be able to commit to volunteering for a full camp day, from 7:45 – 4:15 with a 50-minute break during the day.

In addition to obtaining experience working with children and logging Student Service Learning hours, volunteers will have the opportunity to grow within VisArts.
