VisArts is offering this popular online series with a new twist: the last class will be working from life using trees in the VisArts neighborhood. The first five classes will be online and the last class will be held at VisArts sketching outside..

Trees have been popular subjects for art throughout time, due to their expressiveness and variety in color, shape, and size and how they adapt to the landscape they are in. Students will set up a drawing station outside a window and at the start of class will do a quick pencil sketch of a tree or choose to sketch from a photo. The rest of the class will consist first of demos ,and then you will do your own interpretation of the work of the artist chosen for that week.

Recommended Materials:

  • Sturdy white drawing paper 11 “x 14”, 5 sheets
  • Drawing pencils (4B or 6B recommended)
  • Eraser
  • Black watercolor or india ink for washes
  • Water cup
  • Flat watercolor brush (size 8 recommended)
  • 1 sheet watercolor paper 11” x  14” one sheet
  • Colored pencils

Instruction will be provided through the Zoom platform. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Once registered, students will  be sent an e-mail with the Zoom URL to log in to the class. Please provide a viable e-mail address when registering as this is how the link will be sent.

Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class.
