Printmaking with Mixed Media: Native American Design Elements and Mandalas

Loading Events

In this series course (open to teens and adults), you’ll be learning printmaking techniques with the “Soft-Kut” carving block (easier than traditional linoleum) and the Gelliplate. Both are non-toxic.

The Native-American artistic traditions have much to offer as inspiration. You’ll carve and print a mandala as your final project. Your design could start with a template similar to the one shown here in an ink drawing by Kate Lanxner, the instructor.

The print shown (by Kate Lanxner, your instructor) is from Soft-Kut, on a background paper prepared with blended colored pencil.During classes, you will have the choice of creating smaller scale multiples¬†for notecards, or larger scale prints for wall art. The blocks range in size from 4.5″ x 6″ to 9″x 12″. Gelliplates are 6 x 6″ and 8″ x 10″.
