In this course, we will be learning about the fundamentals of portrait painting. We will be exploring lighting, the structure of the face/body, color, and composition. In the first week, we will be learning about creating a grid and accurately painting a portrait from a reference photo with heavy lighting. In the second week, we will be executing a self-portrait, of which we will also be adding dramatic lighting. The student will have the opportunity to take a photo and paint from that reference or challenge themselves and use a mirror to paint their reflection. In the last week, the students will challenge themselves to paint from life – using a live model.
Students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend this class.
