Natural Dyes and Quilt Blocks: Celebrating the Body with Megan Koeppel and Hannah Brancato
Sunday, August 13, 20, 27 | 1-4 PM | VisArts’ Pop-Up (VisAbility Art Lab’s Studio at 36F Maryland Avenue)
Join us on the last three Sundays of August to learn and create community around the craft history of textiles. Together, we’ll explore how quilts are used to confront instances of oppression and exclusion, with a foundation that incorporates feminism and storytelling.
The workshop series will explore stories of the human body. In a world where Roe v. Wade has been rolled back, it’s more important than ever to have spaces where we can safely discuss our relationships to our bodies. With quilting having a history that’s typically associated with femininity and gender-based marginalization, we invite artists who don’t identify as cis-male to safely share, reflect, and celebrate their bodies through making.
The goal of the workshops is for local artists to learn technical and storytelling skills with a new artistic community – and create a series of works that revolve around the figure, which will be exhibited in VisArts’ Kaplan Gallery from February to March 2024.Â
This event is free, but to reserve your space, please add a ticket and check out.
