To ensure safety class size is limited to 6 students and masks are required in VisArts at all times.
Students of all skill levels are encouraged to take this class. Whether you’ve never used a wheel or you have years of experience you’ll learn how to build and expand your skills and create beautiful functional ceramic forms. For students already comfortable with the basics we will focus on improving your skills and throwing/building larger and more consistent forms. For those looking to move into large and complex forms the focus will be on learning to control more clay and adjusting your technique appropriately. All students will learn to work with glazes and other decorating methods that will result in lovely, functional pieces of pottery.
This class covers instruction in hand-building, wheel and various glazes and surface decorating techniques. This class is held in our Ceramics 2 Studio, which allows access to wheels and handbuilding materials in the same classroom.
Each student receives a credit for 2,000 cubic inches of glaze firings per 8-week session (pro-rated for shorter sessions). Glaze overages are charged at .04 an inch and are due when billed at the conclusion of the session. Each session glaze credit is only available in that session and CANNOT be carried forward from semester into another semester.
Clay is not included with registration and may be bought online or in the administrative office during business hours
