Common Ground Gallery
Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Friday, April 8, 7 – 9 PM
Solo exhibition presenting Marcella Marsella’s upcycled art and fashion made from snippets of contemporary culture including credit cards, currency, bullets and discarded objects. Although these items often play troubling roles, Marsella believes it is possible to transform them into something beautiful and functional and to assign new meaning to their power.
About the artist:
Little known as The Greatest Living Unknown American Artist™, Marcella Marsella (née Lauren Marsella), is the one woman show behind Serious Business®, her handmade art enterprise. Tired of working in the corner of a rented apartment bedroom, she purchased a row home & installed the The Serious Business Factory within. There, Marcella Marsella creates profoundly brilliant works of art and fashions never-before-seen handicrafts such as The Celebrity Death Calendar™ & one-of-a-kind, upcycled jewelry, made from snippets of contemporary culture like credit cards, currency, bullets, & discarded objects. Although these items often play troubling roles, Marsella believes it is possible to transform them into something beautiful & functional, to assign new meaning to their power. Serious Business® work is proudly conceived, produced, patented, copyrighted, trademarked & made in The Bottom, West Philadelphia.
