Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Ever wanted to add a bit of sparkle to your ceramics? Join instructor Kimberly Swanner for a two-week workshop where you’ll learn to apply gold luster and decals to elevate your ceramic work.
Bring 1–5 glazed works to the class if you’d like to apply the gold luster yourself.
An assortment of lusters and decals will be provided. Firings will take place after each class, so you’ll have feedback on your work.
In lusterware, liquid metal luster is applied over vitrified pieces that have already been glazed and fired. The pieces then undergo a third firing to achieve a metallic, iridescent finish.
Gold luster is made from real gold particles suspended in a liquid medium. The organic binder burns off during firing, adding beautiful gold accents to your glazed work.
You’ll receive instruction on various application techniques, as well as important health and safety guidelines. Participants must wear a provided respirator throughout the class.
