Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Beginner through intermediate-level students will learn to draw the figure expressively through observation of live models. There will be an emphasis on training the eye to see angles, shapes, and distances.
The process of working from general forms to specific details will be explored, with a focus on proportion, anatomy, and patterns of light and shadow.
Short and long poses will provide opportunities for dynamic gesture sketches as well as more developed studies.
Class 1: Introduction to Drawing the Figure. Gesture, angles, and mapping of light and shadow.
Class 2: Review of Introduction + Working with Charcoal. Using vine charcoal for gesture, angles, and mapping. Using charcoal pencil and kneaded eraser.
Class 3: Working on White Paper Toned with Vine Charcoal. Gesture, angles, and mapping. Darkening shadows with charcoal pencil. Creating highlights by subtracting charcoal using kneaded eraser.
Class 4: Toned Paper with Chalk Highlights. Gesture and angles with vine charcoal. Darken within shadow areas with charcoal pencil. Add highlights with white chalk.
Class 5: Practicing Figure Drawing. Applying the concepts and techniques introduced in Classes 1-4
Class 6: Practicing Figure Drawing. Applying the concepts and techniques introduced in Classes 1-5
This class is for ages 14+. There will be nude models of all ages and genders posed for observation during the class.
