This project will include ink drawing, and colored pencils, and/or watercolor pencils. Students could choose a song that has the most visual imagery. The music world has a wealth of songs to choose from.
It would be wise to sketch a few of your ideas in pencil before class. You could hand-letter the lyrics in the center and draw around them, or the reverse: have your image in the center and have the lyrics in a circle or rectangle around it (as shown in this sample). If you have a calligraphy pen already, use it! It could be very suitable for framing.
