Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
In this class, students will become familiar with different jewelry techniques, such as cold connections, jump rings, and how to form metal. Students will use found objects such as bottle caps, glass, bones, seashells, rocks, crystals, and more to create wire wrapped jewelry. Students are encouraged to bring their own found objects to incorporate into their work but objects will also be provided in the class.
Class 1: Students should bring a focus found object to the first class to make into a piece of jewelry. Examples could include rocks, crystals, electronic parts, shells, caps, bones or medallions. Students will familiarize themselves with how to use tools including wire cutters, needle nose pliers and flathead pliers. Students will learn the differences between aluminum and copper wire and the appropriate wire gauge to use for projects. Students will use their new knowledge to make jump rings and begin practicing how to wrap objects in wire.
Class 2: Students will make a plan for creating their wire wrapped jewelry piece and continue to practice techniques.
Class 3: Students will use the techniques they have practiced to begin creating their final wire wrapped jewelry piece.
Class 4-6: Students will receive individualized assistance from the instructor to complete their wire wrapped jewelry piece.
This class is for ages 14 and up.
