About Kiel PosnerÂ
Kiel (Kyle) Posner is a ceramicist working in Washington, DC. Their work is anchored in the historical context of their great-grandfather’s labor practices after he emigrated from Kiev to New York City in 1912.
Posner references and uses leftover materials from their great-grandfather’s plastics and ceramics manufacturing business in the porcelain and surface treatments they use for their lamps. Working in this way helps foster a closeness to their personal history through re-performing and queering the same processes their family engaged in.
Posner graduated with a degree in craft and material studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, Virginia) and was the recipient of a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship. In addition to their residency at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, they’ve worked with the Corcoran School of the Arts and have shown their work in Selina Hotel and Otis Street Gallery.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVP below to reserve your space.
