Craft + Conversation: Pottery Traditions of South Asia

Instructor:

Vidya Vijayasekharan

Join us for an introduction to the cultural history and craft tradition of ceramics from the Indian subcontinent.

Participants will get to see diverse pottery styles and techniques, from the stylized, decorative terracotta horses of Bankura in Eastern India and the monumental and dramatic Ayyanar horses of Southern India, to the brilliantly polychromed Jaipur Blue pottery pieces that were influenced by Persian traditions as well as Chinese Ming ware.

An exploration of these craft traditions will also highlight the cross-cultural exchanges and influences that led to the creation of these unique artifacts.

Refreshments will be provided.
