Explore the reactive properties of kiln-formed glass in this four-week class for students of all experience levels.
After reviewing studio safety, tools, basic firing, and cold-working techniques, students will learn about design possibilities and hue mutability in opaque and transparent glass, as well as the delightful, subtle use of tints, opaline, and thin rolled glass in their work.
Students will design and execute a multilayered piece that will showcase color reactions, creating a 10 x 10-inch panel that will be fired, cold-worked (if desired), and mounted on a wood base for hanging. Alternatively, the piece could be slumped into a shallow curved platter.
Students will also explore the dilution effect of firing selectively layered glass while creating a 8 x 8-inch or 7 x 12-inch presentation platter.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list accommodations needed during the class.
Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
