This class is for parent (or grandparent) and child pairs. Participants will each work on three watercolors. They will have many resources for reference, to choose from, both printouts from work our past students have done, photos of cats, and work by other artists. See below for each class structure. Colored pencil for detail may be added after they are dry.
Class #1: We will start with pencil sketches from the work of Andy Warhol, who had many cats over the course of his life. The color is up to the student(s). Your instructor Kate will demonstrate how to do a base color and then add other details, as well as how to transfer your drawing to high quality watercolor paper. The dimensions will be 11” x 14” for classes #1 and #2, and large scale 16 x 20” for class number #3. These are standard sizes for frames. We will use opaque watercolors which can be thinned out for backgrounds, with flat or pointed brushes.
Class #2: As the base color for class #1 is drying, students will have a chance to sketch directly on their papers for class #2 . You could choose a full body cat or just the face. The goal is to finish both by the end of class #2 so we can all start together on Class #3.
Class #3: Paul Klee, a Swiss artist from the early 20th century, is well known for colorful and whimsical paintings and drawings. The outline of the face for his “Cat and Bird can be done with one stroke. The shapes are like a puzzle and students can choose colors or patterns to fill the space. You will see a sample of the instructor’s and past students’ interpretations of this design.
Each ticket is for an adult and child PAIR.
