Zine comes from the word “magazine,” a medium that writers and artists have used to disseminate information and artwork. Historically, mainstream media and institutions haven’t been inclusive of the real issues or stories of marginalized people. As a result, counterculture communities have created zines as a form of sharing stories that are rarely represented in pop culture.
For Pride Month, this zine workshop will focus on the history of zines in reference to LGBTQIA+ history. Participants will learn about storytelling methods and simple bookbinding techniques.
This class is for ages 11 and up.
