Walking down Paris streets is like being in a living museum. There are so many examples of the Art Nouveau style movement (early 20th century) which was not only shown in the architectural design, the doorways, and Metro stations, but in jewelry and other decorative arts, like porcelain.

In this series of 3 classes online, students will look at photos of several doorways and each student will choose two images that resonate with them to use for reference. First, students will receive guidance on how to set up the pages, then they will go over light pencil with waterproof fine line ink pens. They will have a choice to render the tones with a Chinese bamboo brush and ink wash or to paint in watercolor (as shown in the image here). It is recommended to try one of each!

Materials Needed:

-High quality watercolor set (Pelikan brand recommended)

-2-3 watercolor brushes, one round and one narrow flat

-Black India ink (Higgins or Speedball brands recommended)

-Chinese pointed bamboo brush (medium width)

-Watercolor paper (11″x14″)

-Micron pen (size 08)

-Pencil and eraser

-Scrap paper

-Paper towels

-Water cup

This class is for ages 14 and up.

Instruction will be provided through the Zoom platform. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Once registered, students will be sent an e-mail with the Zoom URL to log in to the class. Please provide a viable e-mail address when registering as this is how the link will be sent.
