Shown here is a page from the sketch journal of artist/author Samantha Baker, who wrote the illustrated handbook, Draw Your Day.(she also has a sequel entitled, Draw Your World). Purchasing one of these books is highly recommended, though not required. Here is a quote from the book on the advantage of keeping up a practice of an art journal:
” …Sketch journaling is an opportunity to be expressive in a whole new way. It’s a time away from screens, a time to sit with feelings and ideas…to be mindful…”
As you can see from the page here, on any page you could include a variety of images: where you went that day, what you saw, what you ate, who you visited with, nature, or animals. In class, you will create two pages, so bring some ideas!
- Blank journal sketchbook
- Colored pencils
- Watercolors and/or watercolor pencils
- Waterproof black fine ink pens (like Microns)
- Markers or gel pens
- Calligraphy marker (if you have experience with them)
