VisArts offers private group art experiences for children in daycare or preschool (ages 2-5). The one-hour sessions are designed to spark creativity and nurture imagination in the youngest artists, and are perfect for field trips or birthday parties!
Children will be introduced to different artists, art styles, and media as they create individual projects.

Ages 2-5
Based on “The Polka-Dotted Donkey” acrylic on canvas
Eric Carle (1929–2021) was one of the best-known illustrators of our time. The creator of more than 70 picture books, he combined winsome stories and exuberant collages that appeal to young readers and adults alike. children will make an animal inspired painting in the style of Eric Carle.
Based on “Comes Full Circle” tempera on wooden circle
Alma Woodsey Thomas (1891-1978) was the first Black woman to have a show at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She was also the first Black woman to have work acquired by the White House. Her paintings are a kaleidoscope of colors based on the colors seen in nature. Children will be encouraged to use colors to make a painting in the style of Alma Thomas.

Based on “Steel Fish” kinetic mixed media
Alexander Calder (1898-1976) was an American sculptor known as the originator of the mobile, a type of kinetic or moving sculpture made with delicately balanced or suspended shapes that move in response to touch or air currents. Children will be able to explore the science and art as the create a lovely kinetic sculpture in the style of Alexander Calder.

Ai Weiwei (1957-) is an architect, sculptor, photographer, designer, and activist from China. Probably the most famous contemporary artist of China Have you ever bought something old and painted it to make it look different? That is exactly what Ai Weiwei did when he bought some thousands old pieces of pottery. Children will b able to paint repurposed pottery in the style of Ai Weiwei.

Kehinde Wiley born February 28, 1977, a portrait painter based in New York City, is known for his realistic portraits of contemporary Black subjects that heavily reference paintings by the “Old Masters.” He paints is subjects in bold repeating nature settings. Children will make a collage in the style of Wiley using multiple materials.
Based on “Dots” tempera and acrylic on canvas using various mediums for brushes
Born in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan, on March 22nd, 1929, Yayoi Kusama is one of the most well-known contemporary Japanese artists around the world today. Kusama’s art spans many mediums, including painting, performance, film, fashion, poetry, and fiction, but she mainly works in sculpture and installation. Many of Yayoi Kusama’s works include dots of varying sizes. Children will use different items to make a multi-sized dot picture in the style of Yayoi Kusama.

Based on “Cabeza” watercolor and oil pastels on canvas
Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was a Neo-Expressionist painter in the 1980s. He is best known for his primitive style and his collaboration with pop artist Andy Warhol. Children will learn and make a multimedia painting based on one of Basquiat’s images.
Based on Wassily Kandinsky’s “Concentric Circles” tempera on canvas
A Bulls eye, target, or rings on a tree are all concentric circles. Russian-born painter Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) had an interest in seeing how colors and patterns worked together. He is also credited as a leader in avant-garde art as one of the founders of pure abstraction in painting in the early 20th century. Children will explore the relationship between patterns and colors as they create their own versions of concentric circles.

Faith Ringgold, born in 1930 in Harlem, New York is a painter, sculptor, teacher, activist, and author of numerous award-winning children’s books. Faith Ringgold is best known for her story quilts that tell stories using images of everyday objects and people. Children will create a collage in the Style of Faith Ringgold using using various materials such as vintage stamps and cloth.

To reserve a date and time for your group, you must submit the online form and pay in full. You may add up to seven additional guests up to five business days prior to the session.
Group reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. We don’t hold dates and times and reservations are incomplete until payment is processed.
Group payments are refundable or transferable to another available date and time ONLY IF THE ACTIVITY HAS BEEN CANCELED OR RESCHEDULED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE RESERVED DATE AND TIME.
