Volunteer Opportunities

Do you like working with children, and art? Then volunteering at a VisArts camp might be a perfect fit and a great way to earn some SSL hours!

Position Description

A VisArts Spring Break Camp volunteer will assist with day-to-day camp activities during Spring Break Camp. Volunteers will work directly with the campers, and act as a partial liaison between the teachers, campers, and staff. Volunteers will assist the summer camp teachers and administrative staff with camp operations.

Expectations:

Volunteers will be expected to assist students, teachers, and staff with various tasks throughout the camp day. This includes, but is not limited to; leading campers to and from classrooms, helping teachers organize supplies/materials, helping staff members inventory materials, assisting teachers with class time activities, etc. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least one, two-week session of camp between the hours of 7:45 AM and 4:45 PM, with a 50 minute break period included.

Volunteer hours: 8 AM – 4:30 PM (1-hour minute break period included)

Applicants will receive an email to set up an interview. Every applicant must have an introductory meeting with the Camp Director or Assistant Camp Director(s).

Requirements:

Volunteers must be at least 14 years on by the start date. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from VisArts. An virtual orientation will be held prior to the start of camp, volunteers MUST attend this orientation in order to participate in the program. Volunteers should possess a willingness and openness to learn and excellent communication skills. While experience working with children is not necessary, it is highly desirable.

VisArts is an educational organization. Our mission is not limited to our students/clients, but rather extends to all those who work or volunteer with our organization. The Spring Break Camp volunteer position is an opportunity for young people to experience a professional work environment. Our goal is not only to run successful educational programming, but to teach our young volunteers and interns vital skills that they will use throughout their lives.

VisArts is dedicated to creating professional opportunities for all of its employees and volunteers. In addition to obtaining experience working with children and logging Student Service Learning hours, volunteers will have the opportunity to grow within VisArts. All volunteers are welcome to apply for an intern / administrative position with VisArts after at least two years of volunteering.** Intern positions will expand upon the volunteer experience, cover new skills and new aspects of the summer camp program.

**Exceptions may be made for those who volunteer with VisArts throughout the school year in addition to summer camp. Those with prior experience in a similar position outside of VisArts are welcome to apply for the intern position as well. Prior experience will be evaluated by the camp directors and candidates’ eligibility for the position will be up to their discretion.

After receiving the completed form, we will contact you to set up an Introductory Meeting.

Mandatory Orientation / Training:

All applicants must meet with a Camp Director in an Introductory Meeting prior to beginning their volunteer position for Spring Camps. After the meeting, volunteers will be sent a schedule based on their availability listed on their application and must respond and confirm their schedule via email. If the volunteer does not confirm their volunteer schedule and/or does not submit their complete volunteer paperwork, they will not volunteer for camp.

Volunteers will assist the summer camp teachers and administrative staff with camp operations.

This includes, but is not limited to; leading campers to and from classrooms, helping teachers organize supplies/materials, helping staff members inventory materials, assisting teachers with class time activities, etc. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least one, two-week session of camp between the hours of 8 AM and 4:30 PM, with a 1-hour break period included. Summer Volunteer hours: 7:50 AM – 5:00 PM (50 minute break period included) Summer Camp volunteer sessions will fill up quickly, so please submit your application as soon as possible. Applicants will receive an email to set up an interview. Every applicant must interview with the Camp Director.

Requirements:

Volunteers must be at least 13 years on by the start date of their assigned session. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from VisArts. An online orientation and in-person walk-through will be held prior to the start of camp, volunteers MUST attend both the orientation and walk-through in order to participate in the program. Dates and time to sign-up for orientations will be shared with applicants once introductory meetings begin in March. Volunteers may choose which walk-through date suites them best. Volunteers should possess a willingness and openness to learn and excellent communication skills. While experience working with children is not necessary, it is highly desirable.

After receiving the completed form, we will contact you in mid-March to schedule a virtual interview between April and June, 2025. Later interviews might be possible depending on available positions. Every new volunteer applicant must interview.

Mandatory Orientation/ Training:

All applicants must have an introductory meeting and will discuss the details of the volunteer positions with one of the camp directors but also share more about themselves and previous volunteer experiences if any. Once schedules are confirmed in April, all volunteers (new and returning) are required to attend the mandatory orientation where in-depth details of camp, policies, and rules will be given. The date of orientation will be sent to your email along with the scheduling of your introductory meeting. Orientation/Training will be virtual, however there will be a mandatory onsite facility tour at a later date. All mandatory orientations and trainings must be completed before any volunteer begins volunteering for camp. If the orientations/trainings are not done, missed, or incomplete, volunteers will be removed from the schedule and will not volunteer for camp.
