Since our founding in 1987, VisArts has been a hub for the visual arts in our neighborhood and the wider community—whether you’re a professional artist, a hobbyist, enthusiast, or supporter of the arts. As we celebrate our 35th anniversary during our annual campaign, we’re excited to reflect on our journey, impact, and future.
We’ve long known that art is transformative, and the past few years have reinforced our belief that art is essential—it fulfills our very human need to create, connect, express ourselves, and understand others. Studies have shown—and members of our community have told us—that viewing and/or creating art reduces loneliness, improves mental and physical health, bridges social divides, builds connections, and provides a sense of purpose.
At VisArts, we’re committed to ensuring that art is accessible to everyone. To reduce barriers, we provide stipends and free or discounted studio space to artists; scholarships and discounts to students and campers; online classes to reach more learners; free community art programs in schools, hospitals, and continuing care communities; and accommodations for community members with disabilities —including wheelchair-height easels and pottery wheels.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the transformative power of the visual arts during our 35th Anniversary Transformations Campaign. Your support will help us continue engaging individuals in the visual arts to express ideas, stimulate discussion, and build connections. We can’t do this work without you.
