NextGen

VisArts presents NextGen! This annual juried group exhibition showcases next generation aspiring artists 17 to 27 years of age from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. The exhibition offers young artists, who have little to no exhibition record, the opportunity to bring their work to a wider audience in a professional art gallery.

Those who wish to apply must be ages 17-27. They can be in high school or college and must not have previous professional experience. This includes having  little to no experience exhibiting their work in a professional gallery. Previous NextGen participants are ineligible. Previous NextGen applicants who were not selected may re-apply for this year’s exhibition.

“NextGen” is a culminative project for the VisArts Internship Program. The exhibition is planned and realized by a dedicated team of gallery interns and volunteers with mentorship from the VisArts gallery staff. “From the call for entry to the preparation and installation of the artwork, the entire process is a learning experience- for the first-time exhibitors as well as the organizers of the exhibition”, says Main. “Watching this exhibition take shape is inspiring. The interns embrace the vision to seek out the undiscovered young artists in our community. They are passionate about bringing their peers’ artwork into the public light”.

The application is open until Thursday, June 8, 2017, 11:59 PM. The show will be in our Kaplan Gallery from July 11 – August 19, 2018. After reviewing all works, selected artists will be notified by June 16.

If accepted into the exhibition, you will be expected to drop off accepted artwork to the gallery on July 6, anytime between 10AM- 6PM.
