“I created 5 Fishes at the beginning of the COVID crisis. I was home from work and missed my daughter who lives in California, and who loves koi and goldfish. I made this piece to feel closer to her.

I created Bowl of Kindness as a way to work through the heightened emotions and helplessness I felt during the summer of 2020 with the ongoing protests, counter protests across our country and in the news. It contains more than 40 versions of “The Golden Rule” from a wide variety of religious and secular sources.”

About the artist:

Jen Willard has been taking ceramics classes at VisArts for nearly 3 years. She has a lifelong love of creating art—her undergraduate degrees are in American Studies with a focus on American Art, and Studio Art with a focus on sculpture. After dabbling in metal sculpture, watercolors, charcoals, fabric arts and printmaking she is grateful to have found ceramics which combines her artistic strengths with her love of problem-solving.
