In this six-week class, intermediate-level students will work with colorants and frost porcelain to create intricately patterned clay slabs. This technique originated in Japan and is traditionally referred to as Nerikomi.

In addition to slab building forms, students will learn about the properties of mason stain colorants and frost porcelain.

Students should be prepared to wedge clay for long periods of time during the colorant process.

Students who have taken this class can use this technique in future work; VisArts will sell small amounts of colorants.

Please buy clay prior to your first class and it will be waiting for you on the first day.

Practice makes perfect! Sign up for daily open studio.

Students are assigned a shelf for the duration of their classes. All materials must be removed from these areas on the last day of classes (unless taking a subsequent class).

Registration will close two weeks prior to the start date. Classes require a minimum enrollment of four students. If classes must be cancelled due to low enrollment, students will be informed one week prior to the start of the class and issued a full refund.
