As the title of the class series suggests, this class is all about ‘learning by doing.’ To imitate, and interpret, but not simply copy. As each illustrator is presented, students have the freedom to add, subtract or change color or composition. VisArts has offered this series several times since 2021 to both kids and adults. The six illustrations have been chosen to represent a variety of styles and techniques. All have been published in recent years, and some have received awards.
The illustration shown of the boy ( the young Matisse, a famous French painter) is by  Hadley Hooper in the large-scale children’s book about Matisse’s youth, The Iridescence of Birds, written by Patricia MacLachlan.   All materials provided.
Students should arrange to arrive five minutes beforehand to get settled and to make sure they are present for the demos, which happen at the beginning of each session.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class.
