Social painting classes are a great way to entertain your corporate colleagues or a group of friends. You pick an image, your guests receive a lightly pre-sketched 16” x 20” canvas, and an instructor leads a step-by-step painting lesson. This three-hour class can be tailored to a two-hour class, if desired.

An ideal team building experience, collaborative painting requires participants to negotiate color, design elements, and transitioning between individual canvases to create a cohesive product. As in the workplace, co-workers must consider the opinions and views of others to produce a finished work. The image above was painted by 20 people and uses twelve 16” x 20” canvases to create one large image.

A new twist on collaborative painting, participants start with the same pre-sketched canvas, rotating to another canvas every 15 to 20 minutes. Just as work projects require us to consider co-workers’ input, this activity focuses more on the creative process than the final product. This is a terrific activity for even the most reluctant of painters because each painting is the product of many. The images above were created by 16 people.

People are often described by referencing animals: timid as a mouse, roars like a lion, changes spots like a leopard! Participants will have the opportunity to create hybrid animals that reflect their personalities, challenges or strengths. VisArts will provide lots of images to work with and then our instructor will lead your guests through the sketching and painting of their creation. This activity allows for participants to reveal parts of themselves that they may keep hidden or to express an aspect of their personality that they hope others will see. This creative activity allows for reflection as well as self -expression. Since the animal creations are imaginary there is no “right” or “wrong” way to express oneself. This is all about creativity and having fun.

The hottest trend in painting this year! This is the ultimate creative painting experience-no brush required. Participants will create three 6 x 6 inches paintings after practicing on a small surface. Fluid painting is a type of abstract art that uses acrylic paints mixed with different pouring mediums to create a fluid, flowing consistency. The acrylic paints react with each other when combined to create extraordinary patterns and designs. This class will focus on pouring techniques such as puddle pouring, dirty pour, and swiping.

Work will be left with VisArts staff to dry and be varnished.
Work will be ready for pick up within 5 business days.

Participants can select form blue of clear wine bottles to create a three-dimensional painting using special glass paints. VisArts supplies special corks with LED lights that can be switched on and off to create a one-of-a-kind work of art.

This project can be taken home at the end of the event.

You won’t need to worry about your everlasting office plant when you go on vacation. No matter how long you neglect this beautiful piece of fused glass, the only maintenance it will require is a bit of dusting. Three-inch terra cotta pot and pea gravel will be provided.

Work will be fired by VisArts staff and ready for pickup within 7 business days.

Participants will create this slightly curved flower dish while becoming proficient at nipping and cutting concentric circles of glass.

Work will be ready for pick up within seven business days of the event.

One of our most popular group activities, participants create a 6” x 6” square or 8” x 4” rectangle while they learn about the “cool glass” process during this two-hour class. Your guests learn how to cut glass and consider how different glass interacts. Finished work is ready for pick up within 10 business days of the event.

For those looking for a collaborative twist, we offer a one-hour extension of our regular fused glass plate workshop so that your guests can work collaboratively to create a large-scale piece of artwork. VisArts instructors work with guests to create a balanced design and pleasing color scheme.

This is a lovely collaborative fused glass project that can be combined with another individually focused project such as our fused glass plate or can stand alone.

The small wave would be as a suitable for groups of less than 6 people while the large wave would be suitable for groups of up to 10 people. This collaborative project makes for a beautiful piece of artwork for a conference room or lobby credenza. Because of the size of this glass project, it will not be ready for two weeks from the date of the event.

If this collaborative project is done in conjunction with another individual glass project, an additional hour of instructional time will be required at a cost of $100. There will be no additional room charges.

This class covers instruction in hand-building, wheel and various glazes and surface decorating techniques. This class is held in our Ceramics 2 Studio, which allows access to wheels and handbuilding materials in the same classroom.

Students of all skill levels are encouraged to take this class. Whether you’ve never used a wheel or you have years of experience you’ll learn how to build and expand your skills and create beautiful functional ceramic forms. For students already comfortable with the basics we will focus on improving your skills and throwing larger and more consistent forms. For those looking to move into large and complex forms the focus will be on learning to control more clay and adjusting your technique appropriately. All students will learn to work with glazes and other decorating methods that will result in lovely, functional pieces of pottery.

Each student receives a credit for 2000 cubic inches of glaze firings per 8-week session (pro-rated for shorter sessions). This credit CANNOT be carried forward from semester into another semester. We do not charge for bisque firings.
