As one of the oldest folk arts, Chinese embroidery has been acknowledged for its amazing beauty and brilliant craftsmanship. More than 40 embroidery artworks with traditional and modern designs of two regional styles, Hunan Embroidery and Suzhou Embroidery, will be exhibited with live demonstrations.

The highlight of the exhibition is “Double-Sided Embroidery”, embedded in a piece of glass where both the front and back side can show the same or two entirely different pictures. Viewers will see how embroidery artists apply more than 40 needleworks and more than 1000 different types of threads to create the elegant works, and how traditional Chinese paintings and modern western oil paintings are integrated into the design of contemporary Chinese embroidery works.

Co-sponsored by the Confuscius Institutes at George Mason University and the University  of Maryland
