Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
Join renowned ceramic artist Laurel Lukaszewski for this hands-on workshop, where she’ll demonstrate how to create small wall-mounted sculptures and relief tiles.
Starting with a slab and keyhole, participants will explore texture, pattern, and figurative handbuilding to create a wall-mounted piece.
Lukaszewski will begin with a demonstration of the techniques she uses for her wall-mounted work, showcasing both abstract and figurative examples.
Day one will focus on building a handcrafted, wall-mountable piece using wet clay. Day two will cover finishing techniques, including slip-trailing, underglaze, wax resist, and sgraffito for surface decoration.
Students will use English porcelain (Standard 365), which is available for purchase at: https://www.visartscenter.org/product/standard-365-english-porcelain-clay/
VisArts will provide slip and underglazes.
Lunch will be in the studio – bring your own or buy at a restaurant in the Square.
