Students in this weekly class will acquire skills in composition –visually, seeing relationships in a scene’s elements, color, forms and recording of movements. Learning how to sketch is a great skill to have and helps students learn to notice things in what is normally a fast-paced culture. We will be sketching in the blocks surrounding VisArts, weather permitting. In inclement weather we will sketch inside.
Students are encouraged to buy a simple 5″ x 7″ sketchbook to carry with them, in and out of class time, to develop the habit of noticing and documenting the world around them in a personal, non-electronic way. Larger format paper and drawing/painting materials included.
VisAsrts will provide all the materials needed for this class as well as a copy of the book “Draw Your Day”
Notes on weather: If the temperature drops below 42 degrees, we will not be sketching outdoors, but we will simply either:
1) Take a short walk to a very close site, to take a look at it, take photos and then go back inside to do our artwork, or
2) Work from any of the large picture windows in the classroom or in the Rockville Library which is only a 2-minute walk away.
We won’t be going out at all if it is raining, snowing, or very windy.
Special reminder to parents: If your student has to miss a class, or if you are running late, please call or email our office to leave a message so that we know whether or not to wait for your student before going out (which we do at the start of each class period). Thank you.
