In this 4-session on-site course in VisArts’ neighborhood, students will do outdoor sketching, building their observation skills. They will practice transferring the colors, shapes, lines, light, and shadow that they see, onto the paper. There will be demos on technique and on perspective and at least one class from the 6th-floor rooftop (shown). We will work with pencils and colored pencils outdoors and later, a choice of other materials for a more final drawing. The final project will be an acrylic painting on canvas, using their preliminary sketch as a reference. If it is too cold or windy to draw outside, students will work from VisArts’ picture windows.
Students are encouraged to buy a simple 5″ x 7″ sketchbook to carry with them, in and out of class time, to develop the habit of noticing and documenting the world around them in a personal, non-electronic way. Larger format paper and drawing/painting materials included.
VisAsrts will provide all the materials needed for this class as well as a copy of the book “Sketching 365: Build Your Confidence and Skills with a Tip a Day”.
This class has a limited enrollment of eight. Students will be required to wear surgical, KN95, or N95 masks and our classrooms will be set up for optimal social distancing. Required masks will be available in the main office if needed.
Please use the Notes section on the registration form to list any accommodations you will need during the class.
