In this online series about this prolific Swiss-German artist (1879-1940 ), students will discuss the broad scope of his subject matter, and his styles by grouping some reproductions of examples, including the one shown here. We will discuss his fascination with children’s art, geometric shapes, color, fantasy, and lines. Students can choose either the whole work or a section to interpret, based on the samples seen in the class. Acrylic and Watercolors. Three acrylic paintings on canvas, over the four-class series plus a watercolor study. Our goal will be to explore composition and color awareness and blending, and art history. His work has been described to represent and influence other artists and art movements across the board: Expressionism, and Surrealism, and he has been called one of the first abstract artists. The painting pictured here is entitled Caprice in February.
