In this class, we will review how different kinds of visual art have contributed towards activism throughout history, and discuss foundational knowledge for practical art building skills. This includes how to do wheatpasting, banner drops, puppet building, etc. and then we will create our own posters together for the cause of your choosing. At the end of the class, we will discuss how to organize an art build in your community for causes that you care about.

Materials Needed:

  • Poster paper (size and type of paper is up to you)
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Dry mediums like markers, pastels, colored pencil, etc
  • A sketchbook or a few pieces of printer paper
  • Reference images of protest art that inspires you

All virtual classes are based on Zoom. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download Zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Access to the Zoom classroom will be e-mailed the day before the class starts.
