In this two-day workshop taught by VisArts instructor Jenny Beech, students will learn how to throw a tajine – a traditional North African cooking vessel. Tajines are noted for their tall, conical lids and wide bases. The cover is designed to return moisture to the bottom of the vessel. These pieces are not only beautiful and technically challenging to throw, but functional as well!
Students should be comfortable working with three+ pounds of clay and have at least six months’ experience on the wheel.
Note about clay: Tajines are traditionally used on a direct flame and we’ll stock https://www.lagunaclay.com/product-page/flame-ware for $60 for a 25-pound bag. However, you may use any clay we stock if you intend to use your tajine in the oven rather than on a direct flame.
