Learn or improve your handbuilding and surface decoration skills in this 5-week online-class with Anne Hobart.
You may not have the well-equipped Visarts studio to work in, but with the guidance of this class you can make do with what you have! In this class we will make and decorate in all manner of ways – many that you have wanted to try, but have never had the time to settle in and actually do.
While you don’t need much equipment at home to take this class, you will need a sturdy surface (a kitchen counter will do), a rolling implement and clay. Every week will be a different exploration of surface decoration skills, including but not limited to using slips and underglazes, sgraffito, and painting techniques. While handbuilding skills will be demonstrated and discussed, this class really is for the decoration of surfaces, not their production. Information on requested materials will be provided by the teacher once the class begins.
Clay may be bought online and finished greenware and glaze work may be brought to and picked up from VisArts using our weekly sign-up. Only students enrolled in an
online class will be allowed to use the pick-up and drop-off schedule.
All virtual classes are based in Zoom. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download Zoom on their computer, phone or tablet. Access to the Zoom
classroom will be made available after registration.
