Special Projects in Handbuilding: Plates and Trays

In this 8-week class students will meet online every week with Xiaosheng Bi to extensively explore slab building and the basic techniques in making and using press molds to create round and angular plates and trays. Students will learn specialized techniques to avoid warping of flat pieces and how to use natural materials for creative surface decoration and and the application of underglaze. Students can make functional sets of plates or individual art work pieces for display.

This class is for students at the advanced beginner and above level. Clay is not included with the registration but finished greenware and glaze work may be brought to and picked up from VisArts using our weekly sign-up. Only students enrolled in an online class will be allowed to use the pick-up and drop-off schedule. Students in Online Classes may also sign up to use Open Studio times below

All virtual classes are based in Zoom. Students will need to have a webcam and the ability to download Zoom on their computer, phone or tablet. Access to the Zoom classroom will be made available after registration.
