Effective January 1: Masks are Optional in VisArts’ Classrooms and Studios
In this adult six-week class students will come away with several paintings on canvas. We will explore the complexities and properties of slow drying acrylic paint, color theory and paint applications. In this course, students will have the option to work from photographs or a still life. Previous drawing or painting experience is encouraged but not required. Additionally, surrealism will be introduced and the idea of combining multiple subjects in one composition.
Week One: Color theory course, applications and properties of slow drying acrylics introduced. All students will create their own color wheel and be introduced to the technique of neutralizing colors that complement each other.
Week Two: Bring in a photograph to paint, this can be from nature, an animal, a figure or something more abstract.
Week Three: Continue painting from photograph.
Week Four: Continue painting from photograph of choice and Surrealism will be introduced. If student is at a stopping point with the painting from a photograph, they can start on a Surrealist painting. Contemporary artists will be introduced for inspiration.
Week Five: Continue with Surrealism Project or painting of your choice. Other options beside painting from a photograph or a surrealist painting might be a still life or landscape.
Week Six: Finish up paintings.
