Sewing (Ages 8-12)

This fun and engaging class is perfect for students of all skill levels; whether you’re threading a needle for the first time or looking to sharpen your existing skills. Throughout the course, students will explore a variety of sewing techniques while working on creative, hands-on projects. You’ll learn the essentials of hand sewing, how to use a sewing machine, basic embroidery, patchwork, and the art of designing and constructing soft sculptures.

Each project is designed to build confidence and creativity, while reinforcing key sewing concepts and techniques. Students will have the opportunity to personalize their work and express their unique style through fabric, color, and texture.

For students with prior sewing experience, we offer open studio makerspace time. This is a flexible, supervised block during which students can work independently on self-directed projects, experiment with advanced techniques, or dive deeper into areas of special interest. It’s a great chance to apply skills in a more exploratory environment, collaborate with peers, and bring personal design ideas to life with guidance and access to a wide range of materials and tools.
