Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Friday, December 1, 7 – 9 PM

Sarah Hardesty uses the idea of ‘time-binding’ states as a contextual platform for experiencing her site-specific installation. Through space, color, line, time marking systems, and repetition, she explores the distinctively human attribute of preserving memories and records of experiences for the use of subsequent generations.

About the artist: Sarah Hardesty has been awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony, the Wassaic Project, the Carriage House at Islip Art Museum, Santa Fe Art Institute and Vermont Studio Center. Her drawings, paintings, and installations have been included in numerous exhibitions including ISE Cultural Foundation, New York, NY; Davidson Contemporary, New York, NY; MPG Gallery, Boston, MA; Wheaton College, MA; the Tucson Museum of Art and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson, AZ. She has been awarded a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant in conjunction with Santa Fe Art Institute and a Leon Levy award for her residency at MacDowell. She received her M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Arizona in 2005, and her B.S. in Studio Art from Skidmore College in 1998. She was born in Strong, Maine and currently lives and works in the Washington, D.C. area.
